About Range Hoods
A range hood is the most direct way to keep cooking smoke, grease, and steam out of your kitchen air. The two decisions that matter most are how the hood mounts above your cooktop and whether it exhausts air outside through a duct or recirculates it through filters. CFM rating tells you how much air the fan moves per minute, which should match the output of your range or cooktop. Width matters too: the hood should be at least as wide as the cooking surface beneath it, and 30-inch and 36-inch models cover the widest share of American kitchens. Beyond those basics, filter type, fan speeds, and control style determine how easy the hood is to live with day to day.
